This novel was a very different pace from the previous two, being much more action-packed and less descriptive and thought-provoking. As such it was much shorter and very easy to fly through, however, I am a big fan of complicated worlds thus I genuinely enjoyed the last two books for their exploration of the world and descriptions (although The Mime Order was a little too slow at the beginning).

The Song Rising left the world of London and explored more of the Scion world in the UK, which was definitely fascinating, but I almost felt as if the pace of the book moved a little too fast at times, from one explosion or heist to another without much thought process in between. I struggle a little with this because rather than eliciting strong compassion, failed actions just made the characters appear dumb for not considering their options enough.

Paige's character continues to grow in this novel, as do her relationship with other characters such as Nick and Elisa, the character growth and development is good but (especially in Paige's case) could potentially have been better, maybe this is just because the novel was so action focused and we didn't spend a whole lot of time considering the individual character's growth. HOWEVER, I still cannot get behind Warden and Paige's relationship, I think it ruins the books a little for me.

Overall, this book was pretty good, if you love action-based plots you'll love the direction this novel takes. My only real issue with it is the emotions the last scenes gave me, I don't feel much motivation to continue the series based on the final interactions of the characters, but that's probably also because of Warden.

I’ve never before been simultaneously interested and infuriated by a series. Really cannot understand the hype. That being said, I will probably end up continuing just for closure alone.
