The Song Rising

Samantha Shannon

4.2 AVERAGE

More solid than I remember, most likely due to the slight tweaks Shannon made with this revised text. The shortest of the series, but also the most action-packed. The ending works well as the general midpoint of the series, thrusting our characters into entirely new worlds they haven't experienced before and promising a multi-installment journey that will ultimately end with them returning to the place it all began.
Paige really goes through it in this one.

Despite being a shorter book and the third in a series, I struggled to get into the beginning. It probably took me about 100 pages to get into it and then I didn’t want to put it down.
The beginning just sees Paige scrambling, but when she finally gets her feet under her, the story improves. I did miss the romance in this book, but I also respect Paige for not being some silly little romance heroine. I like her ability to make hard decisions. I find her mostly likable as a character though sometimes she does drive me nuts.
I’m wary about Book 4 after the ending, but ready as I’ll ever be to dive into it.

Well, gosh.
Thats a book with a lot in it. So many twists and turns. How on earth Paige stayed alive, let alone kept moving, through some sections is astounding.
Definitely looking forward to what happens next for Paige.

2021 Re-Read: I started reading The Dawn Chorus novella, but needed to remind myself how we got here. The later section of this book was even more harrowing than I remembered. The whole book is - no wonder I had to put it down months ago and move to Bridgerton for something light when we went back into lockdown1
