There was surprisingly a lot going on in this book for being one of the shortest ones so far. There were also a surprising amount of editing errors that I noticed - at first it was like whatever, it happens, but as I kept reading, I kept noticing more and more. It doesn't affect the story, but I was kind of wondering about the quality of the copyediting.
I like Paige as a character, I really do, BUT it feels like she makes an impulsive decision every other chapter that only ever ends badly and after a while I find it a little annoying...but the ENDING of this one, oh my god. What an intense (and dark) last section of the book.

Hat a really hard time reading the first half but it managed to pick up pace after that. Paige is gambling high: going against Jaxon and becoming Underqueen of the Mime Order while trying to prevent Scion scanners from making voyeur lives impossible to happen.
If you liked the books before you're in for more annoying sexual tension, political intrigue, history, and massive world building. I know this might be dumb, but I actually thought there would be sort of closure after this one, but hot damn, there are more books coming!
Not a better rating because I still think there's too much useless world building in this one, hindering the story from really unfolding its potential. The sexual tension was also annoying, as already mentioned. Just get on with it.
I also think that this series suffers heavily from a too young protagonist. I mean, how old is Paige? Not 20 yet. Yet she behaves like she's been in the game for decades Annoying.
3,5-4 Stars
