WOW! The shift in atmosphere and focus in this book was massive. We went from focusing on Paige and the syndicate to a revolution that has taken us across the British isles and now to mainland Europe!
Some of this book fell into the somewhat predictable “new leader uncertainty” tropes that I have seen in other books and one episode of merlin in series 4. But that does not mean this book didn’t have the fantastic twists and turns of the first two instalments.
I can’t wait to the mask falling to come out, I wonder if we are going to see more POVs now, as the seals are well and truly on different paths (for now at least). I’m really interested in where burnish and her sponsors fit into this story, is it really a coalition of free world countries or is there something more going on?????

while i think this is the weakest of the series so far, the last 40% of this book sets up the test of the series really nicely. i’m excited to see how paige and warden’s relationship develops in france, and to learn more about this spy network!!

This series is best devoured in quick succession, in my opinion. Goodreads thinks this is only my second read of the series so far. It's not. It's my first read of the revised editions, but I've read the original editions a fair few times now. Every time I read them, especially now with the revised editions, I discover something new about the world. Samantha Shannon has built a world that feels so real and so lived-in that it's easy to fall into time and time again and still feel like you've read something new. We love to see it.

Was a hard read (due to how dark it got) but it was so worth it. I consumed this book and though the middle didn't rlly grip me as hard as the beginning and 3rd part, I was still addicted to this book. Paige grew sm this book and her resilience is the best part of her character. Orginiall, I hated her in the first book but she's now become one of my fav female leads. I ugly cried during this book. Such a devastating emotional ride.
