I can't possibly write a good enough review for this classic, but I can't just not say anything to a book that touched me so deeply. Steinbeck puts the reader inside of this farmer family in a way that by the end of the book you'll have forgotten you're not in the story. There're not good words to describe how the hardships of these people will shock you and scare you, but at the same time they feel so close to you that this is not a shocking or scary book but a deeply moving one, one that will bring up the most profound feelings of sympathy and empathy and the wish to help and be nice to others. This is one of those books that you'll never forget having read.

Sometimes the way you feel about a book has more to do with when you read it than what's on the page. This one came to me at a time that made it feel particularly relevant, and will, I think, keep it at the front of my mind for a while. It's a product of its time, but masterful work from Steinbeck. A book that should leave you raging, or at least reconsidering.
