I cried for 85% of this book, at minimum.

My only complaint is that I just truly do not care about Jace or Clary that much and I’m bored with the prospect of them being a focal point again now

4.5 stars. ugh i loved this. jem has always been one of my favorite characters in the shadowhunter world, so to have a 600+ page book filled with stories about his life was a real joy. following jem/brother zachariah through time and seeing him interact with different generations of shadowhunters was super interesting. i really liked how some of the stories were just short, seemingly small (but not really) moments in time for certain characters and then other stories follow the bigger storyline of the lost herondale. the last story that included parts of jem, tessa, kit, and mina absolutely wrecked me and has me eagerly awaiting TWP series.

I only read a couple of the stories because the ones targeted at the Mortal Instruments don't really interest me but I did enjoy the ones a read muchly. I think one day I'll read a couple of the others about Tessa and Kit but the one about Anna Lightwood had me crying so hard and I regret nothing (second story.. can't remember the name) I recommend if you like a little background on things :)

I cannot deal with these two. I love them so much. And Irene is the best thing ever. Livvy ❤️

Let me preface this review by saying that I think this as a whole should be read before getting into The Last Hours. Or, at the very least, "Cast Long Shadows" and "Every Exquisite Thing." The tricky thing about these novella books is that they tend to span over long periods of time and each story is interwoven before, throughout, and after certain series. On one hand it's nice because certain characters get fleshed out a little more and you are able to understand why they do certain things but it also can be very overwhelming seeing as Cassie's Shadowhunter back catalog is now enormous lol. Oh well I guess.

The best part of this series, to me, was OBVIOUSLY JEM. I can't believe there ever was a time that I was straight up vehement about Tessa only ever being with Will. Why? Why just have one great love in a lifetime when you're lucky enough to have two?! Learning more about Jem's journey as a Silent Brother, what Tessa was up to at the same time, the search for the Lost Herondale, and then the start of Tessa and Jem's new life together was so perfect. I swear to God I teared up AT LEAST ONE in every. single. novella. Jem is quite honestly the best character in this entire series. He's the softest, the kindest, the most patient, the most loving--I could really go on. I am so happy that Cassie was able to give him that future and life that he so deserved. Like the chapter with him as a dad to both Mina (and Kit, really) warmed my heart so, so much. At this point in my life, the Shadowhunter world is a home away from home and a place I will be happy to lose myself in for the rest of my life.

Once again Cassandra made me weep over these characters...

This book over all is fantastic. One obvious plus side is the constant appearance of Jem, but we also get an insight into details of characters that bring them to life. I'll admit, my least favorite part of the story was probably the search for the lost Herondale because the pacing can be a bit slow, but I adored every other aspect of this book. The scenes of New York, London during the war, and a creepy carnival are all fantastic. I was also pleasantly surprised to see appearances from Raphael as well as the story of how Jace came to be in the Lightwood's care. Not to mention, Jem with Tessa, Kit, and Mina made my heart hurt in the best way.

This is a great sequel(?) to the clockwork series which is actually the best series in this whole SH universe. The only reason I’m still reading through the universe is all because of the continuum and seeing the prequel characters continue on into subsequent books. Will, jem, and tessa are my babies
