3.5 stars.

The first half was absolutely boring and even pointless at times. But I loved meeting Matthew and Anna there, and the rest of The Last Hours Characters.

The second half was really good, really sweet and sad and also scary, near the end. I'm very excited to read The Wicked Powers and very fearful as well. I just want everyone to be happy ):

Fair to say I enjoyed this one a lot more than The Bane Chronicles and Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy

I don't know if it's because I'm kind of in a reading slump, or this book wasn't that good, but I just wasn't a huge fan of Ghosts of the Shadow Market. There wasn't anything particularly wrong, I just found myself bored for the majority of this book. I really liked the stories with Anna Lightwood and Matthew Fairchild, but the rest of them I honestly just skimmed. Maybe I'll reread it another time, but I was kind of disappointed.

KIT AND JEM AND TESSA AND WILHELMINAS FAMILY DYNAMIC IS THE CUTEST THING EVER AHHHHHHHHH

Cast Long Shadows; 5/5
*optional to read this before or after chain of gold*
They really came out strong with this story, I loved it so much it was probably my favourite in the entire novella, i loved seeing Matthew and Jem interact, the dialogue was so witty and fun i could not help myself grinning from ear to ear listening to this one! I would definitely recommend to read it before you read Chain of Gold, it gives a great intro to the cast in Chain of Gold one i wish i had before going in (as i read this after) but it’s not completely necessary as it does leave some mystery regarding Mathews story arc in chain of gold

Every Exquisite Thing; 5/5
*optional to read this before or after chain of gold*
I lovedddd this story. wow. This is such a great intro to Ana Lightwood I freaking love her character and wish I had this back story before reading Chain of Gold it was so heartwarming but also heartbreaking. The scene with her and Cecily was so touching and uplifting. As well as this her friendship with Matthew, i loved their dynamic, i hope we get more scenes with her in Chain of Iron! It’s not a secret Cassie doesn’t write ‘intimate’ scenes for lgbtqia+ characters which was a little disappointing to once again read. (also the necklace?!?!)

Learn about Loss; 4/5
*read after TMI, TID, optional to read after TDA & TLH*
Sister Emilia though. what a character. I loved her. I don’t think we see her in any other book that’s been released so far, but I do have high hopes for her to be in The Wicked Powers, i feel like that was such a strong character intro how could we not? This story did really well to describe the Shadow Market, I loved the imagery in this one and the maze felt like a fever dream, really great scene! Not sure how relevant it is to read but enjoyed it all the same.

A Deeper Love; 3/5
*recommended to read before city of heavenly fire but it is optional*
Ehhhh okay so i don’t know if this is controversial but I didn’t love this one, it felt like it dragged on a bit, it was really good to see Tessa and get a bit more background into what she does following The Last Hours trilogy but it’s no secret that both Tessa and Gem end up together at the end of City of Heavenly Fire, and so I don’t know when you would read this within the series? I will go into this more in the overall rating but it seems this book needs each chapter read in a specific order. For me this chapter had no angst because of this, but it was nice to check in on these characters. Probably the best thing that came out of this one was our appreciation of Catarina Loss, i love their friendship and i discovered a new found love for her character.

The Wicked Ones; 3.5/5
*read after TMI, optional for all other series*
I actually surprisingly liked this story, though I found it really hard to like Celine our main protagonist, I really appreciated her story in terms of learning more about the Circle and the manipulative character that is Valentine. I found myself sympathising with Celine because of how alone she was and how easy it was for Valentine to recruit her because of this but also getting frustrated with her which is a good sign and made her character two dimensional. I often looked at the circle so confused as to how people could join and this story really opened my eyes into trauma and how massively it can be played into when you have some as sick as Valentine manipulating you. I also didn’t even put it together that this was Jace’s mother until the last few moments so that was super interesting to get her back story, as well as this we already know the story of Amatis Graymark to hear the other side was really full circle. (pun intended)

Son of the Dawn; 4/5
*recommended to read after all series*
This one was an interesting one. I liked it mostly for the moments of our favourite characters, the back story of getting the nickname Jace, a bit of insight into Alec and his struggles with sexuality, Jace before the lightwoods and how much they effected him growing up (he just would not be the person he is without growing up with them and this story really made me realise that) I liked the storyline it was very Shadowhunter of them. It was nice to revisit characters we know are now lost to us that was very heartbreaking. And also I loved this story for Lily Chen what a great character, I cant wait to see more of her in The Wicked Powers. She was hilarious with the nicknames. iykyk.

The Land I Lost; 4/5
*read after TMI, TID, Bane Chronicles & Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy*
I loved this story, it was so brilliant. You should definitely read this one if you’re a fan of magnus and alec it was such a cute back story for them, the storyline was pretty average, but still enjoyed reading it for those special moments with our loved characters. It’s also good because these stories make me theorise for The Wicked Powers and so I appreciated that aspect of it as well!

Through Blood, Through Fire; 3.5
*read after TMI, TID, optional to read before or after TDA*
I did like this story but not as much as I thought I would, I wanted to read that moment of when they were reunited and when Jem was cured and have them finally realise they could have a future together but we just skipped over it and so i didn’t love this story as much as I thought I would, it’s definitely an introduction to Lady Midnight, which was nice to revisit and see the backstory of Kit’s parents. Revisiting Tessa’s powers and the reveal at the end was very nostalgic.

The Lost World; 4.5/5
*you must read TMI, TID, TDA before reading this*
Omg I loved this story, I love Ty and Livvy they are one of my ultimate favourite characters and so revisiting them I was so freaking excited. Reading through Livvy’s perspective was super sad and so I am worried for Wicked Powers to see how this dynamic changes and evolves. But yes overall I love them, I miss these them

Jem is my favorite character in this series and Jessa is my OTP, so I was basically primed to really like this. There were a few inconsistencies and cringe-y moments (that one set in WWII felt like bad fan fiction, and was the only story I strongly disliked) but I really loved getting 600 pages of Jem.

The Wicked Powers is gonna be fuuuuuuucked.

I feel like I needed this book, and it’s sort of helped me get out of my reading slump. I found this book a lot better than the red scrolls of magic and nearly up to her usual standard of writing, I wouldn’t say it’s fully her usual writing standard but it’s close. It’s way better then red scrolls of magic, and the bane chronicles, slightly better than the dark artifices trilogy but not as good as the infernal devices and the mortal instruments.

Now on to the actual review. So this book is made up of several different stories which are wrote by Cassandra Clare and other authors. They are based on Jem who is on the front cover when he is a silent brother and when he is no longer a silent brother. It’s been a while since I read these books so I can’t remember how or why Jem is no longer a silent brother so for someone who is really good at remembering may enjoy those books a lot more.

Out of all the books my most favourite one is learn about loss and my least favourite one was possibly the second one every exquisite thing.

I’ll talk about the whole book book rather than the individual books as that is how I’ve rated it.

So this book was wrote really well, the pace was really good and kept you wanting to read. The only thing was at certain points in certain books much wasn’t happening so it did get slow but it was still a really good read.

There was a lot of details reading through the book that I’d totally forgotten about and it was pretty awesome how you got to read the different point of view of how events occurred. It was also really sweet to read things from his point of view and getting to know more of his personality. I found him a really nice character in the other books and was one of my favourite, but now reading things from his point of view shows you how he actually cares for the other people that he meets.

This book was really good because each individual story was about a set of characters sometimes these characters appeared in other stories but it was a different event happening so it was really nice to read. I also liked how sometimes they were set at different times within the shadow hunter world when different characters are alive and stuff, which I found really nice. I also liked to read about Jems struggles that he has had to face.

I loved reading about Kits life when Ty goes to the scholomance and the problems their friendship face. I thought it was quite realistic and I enjoyed all the adventures within these books.

Been truthful I just loved the whole thing, it was 100% won’t the read and every minute of the day. It was just perfect reading about several characters interactions all within one book, all the different adventures and problems that were faced. It was just so lovely that they were all tied under one book. The only thing that put me off was that there was no chapters within the smaller books, and I’m not a fan of big chapters as it is.

If you are a fan of Cassandra Clare’s books then I would definitely recommend that you read this big book there’s only 10 small books within it.
Loveable characters: Yes

I enjoyed this book so much, partly because I could read about all my favourite characters again but even the new characters were very nice. Some of these stories were so cute. It made me very excited for the Wicked Powers (although I’m also a bit scared now) and even more excited for Chain of Iron.
