8/10 : A collection of short, poignant tales, focusing on love, loss & loneliness, told by seven men. There were moments when I paused, finding real perspective in the words, despite no affinity to the characters portraying the wisdom, which is, personally, what I think Murakami does so well.
I am not the targeted audience for these short stories.
There was way too much pressure on women fulfilling something within men. Unsure if this is based on something men truly experience, but either way I don’t want to read about the sexist roles women play inside the mind of men.

Great collection of very subtle short stories. Nuanced, small snippets of life…a very compelling read! Will read more from this author!
I was on the second to last story and I thought to myself, "Wow, am I really going to get through an entire Murakami novel without having encountered suicide?" And then I read the last story, which shares its title with the volume, and found it.
Like the other books I've read by this author, they're like character studies, almost. And with the short story format it's even more so. It's not so much plot as a description of a person, in a thought-provoking way that kind of makes you look inside yourself as well.
