(in Yesterday)

The first story was the only one I truly liked. I didn't like how almost all the women were cheaters.
Minor: Death, Infidelity, Sexual content
The snippets of these lives easily melt into ur brain like polite (a very nice 15oc) seeping magma. Though that may sound slightly aggressive, it was a wonderful calming experience.
It is icky reading only of women as the object of sexual desire however that is literally the point in this novel- through his own and other males experiences ~ One hand on the horn of lifes many boners and another painting this classique priceless masterpiece.
The story at the end which reads like an attempt at remembering trauma in a stream of consciousness style is by far my favourite, thank you Murakami i am inspired again.

I'm happy I gave Murakami another chance. I enjoyed most of these short stories and think a lot of them had something to say that resonated with me.
That said, I don't like how he writes women or the fact that except for one instance, it's only the women who cheat in all of these stories (I do not consider this a spoiler). There's overall a lack of women characters and they're more mentioned, so it doesn't do that much all in all, but enough to bother me. There's also one kinda homophobic comment in there, though it's mild and mostly puts a sour taste in my mouth (especially on top of the way he writes women).
I did enjoy this. I liked 'Drive my car' and 'Kino' the best, and was completely thrown off by the sudden Kafka fanfic in there (it might be a better story if you've already read the metamorphosis but at least I did get the reference). At the very least, this collection made me want to read the other book I have borrowed from my dad and give his novels another try. Exactly what I think of Murakami, I can't yet say for sure.

A Summer Place would be the main song of this sub-title (Men Without Women)
Classic Murakami, middle age guys have issues with women as the stories get progressively more abstract and absurd. I loved the first half that was more grounded and easy to follow.
