I didn't know this was a YA book when I started it and was pleasantly surprised. GREAT characters, interesting storyline. Really like it.
Loved it. The time and place, the pace of the story, the characters. Perfect.
One of my favourite books, I sympathised with Josie a lot, and in a way I could relate to her situation. I love the narrative and the writing style, writing each sentence of a letter on another page really made me nervously enticipate whats going to happen next!
2.5 This really disappointed me. I’m not saying this is the worst book ever or anything but I have loved all of Ruta Sepetys books (4.5-5 star books) and this one just fell short
Loved this book! The characters jumped right out of the pages and came to life. Josie is an intelligent, bookish girl with the odds stacked against her, but her resilience and her extended "family" help her rise above her circumstances. One of my favorite books this year.

Enthralling!
Read this in the blink of an eye! I was hooked instantly, and the historical aspect can’t be beat! Amazing.

This was so different from Sepetys's other work, but it retained the beauty of language and urgency of conflict. I am so enamored by her characters and always want them to win, and she does a commendable job of keeping that sense of victory in check.
