I love Sepetys’s WWII fiction, but I strayed from picking up this novel because the 1950s is not my favorite historical period to read about. However a friend recommended and lent me this book, and I plowed through it in an evening! Sepetys is a great story teller, and her characters are unique and richly developed.

I seriously just loved everything about this book. It’s not a “feel good” read, but it’s just got such an optimistic end without every little thing falling into place and I just loved it.

I have to admit that I like this book the least out of all Ruta Sepetys's books. I think it's mainly because of its topic and setting. New Orleans is not as interesting to me as WWII Europe that is shown in her other books.
