Great story and unique characters. I would read more about Josie and her adventures.

"Out of the Easy" by Ruta Sepetys is a captivating historical novel that transports readers to the vivid streets of New Orleans in the 1950s. The story follows Josie Moraine, a resilient and determined young woman trying to escape the shadows of her mother's profession and the gritty world of the French Quarter.

Sepetys masterfully brings this atmospheric setting to life, immersing the reader in the vibrant and sometimes sinister atmosphere of the city. Josie's journey is a compelling one, filled with challenges, secrets, and complex relationships that keep you turning the pages.

The characters are richly developed, and you can't help but become emotionally invested in their fates. Josie's strength and determination are truly admirable, and her voice as a narrator is authentic and engaging.

What sets "Out of the Easy" apart is not just its beautifully crafted narrative but also the way it delves into the themes of identity, family, and the choices we make. The book provides a window into a different era, where societal expectations and prejudices create a powerful backdrop for the characters' struggles and triumphs.

Ruta Sepetys's writing is both evocative and emotionally charged, making this novel a must-read for those who appreciate well-researched historical fiction with compelling characters and a powerful sense of place. "Out of the Easy" is a tale of resilience, hope, and the enduring human spirit that will leave a lasting impression.

I flew through this book. It's beautifully written and poignant. It's a historical coming of age novel and deals with questions of parental loyalty and prostitution.

The writing has a beautiful musicality and I really enjoyed the main character. At times, I was frustrated by her decision making but what do you want from an 18 year old trying to escape her past?

I found the characters nuanced with depth. There were very few characters that were solely good or solely bad and all felt real to me.

My only complaint is that the ending came too quickly. I feel like the end could have carried on a little longer. I just wanted to know more.

However, I would definitely recommend this book. It brought me to an old school New Orleans.
