Riby Dixon cannot lose. She always win and I couldn't be more happy about it!!
So we follow Kim, who was freed from a slaver 8 months ago, given a plot of land and equipment on a little plannet and she now lives her life. Except for her neighbor, Nass, who she feels is harassing her, he left a dead prey on her door step, and came on her door. So she hires a bountyhunter, to find her a kind male to sharr her life and marry in name only. In comes Nass, a praxxian (so basically a big alien cat hybrid) who has a crush on Kim, hus new human neighbor. But he doesn't think she understands his mating rituals, so when he realizes she hired a bounty hunter to find her a male, and put herseld in a world of danger, he takes things in hands and lets himself be kidnapped.
I just loved it, Nass was really cute and I loved that his speciss is based on cats. His backstory was really sad but he really made the most of it and he couldn't have been better. Kim was also really cute, she was frustratted with the situation but managed to make the best of it and she ended up winning to game.
I also really like the plot, it read a bit like a fanfiction (in a good way), and now that I know thar it was written as one (with daily chapter uploaded bc of quarantine) it really makes sense! I loved that Ruby put a little bit of her and the situation by making Kim a writer who uploads chapter by chapter.
I can't wait to know what happens to Sophie ald I hope we see more of Bethia too!

DNF around 50%
Seems sweet, but boring, and the FMC is stupidly naive to the point where I'm not even willing to forgive *Ruby Dixon* for it. And I'll forgive her almost anything.

Ruby Dixon is so hit or miss for me, but I've got to say, When She Purrs (what a godawful title) was a hit. It was a full length novel, none of this novella crap we've seen so much of in this series. I had time as a reader to become invested in the characters; feel what they're feeling, see things from their perspective, root for them to succeed in life and in love. Just as importantly, it didn't rely on the instalove trope. There's got to be some tension, some yearning, some angst for it to really count as a romance in my book. True, Nassakth definitely had unrequited feelings for Kim but it took a while for him to gain her trust and have those feeling reciprocated.
Who knew that a marriage of convenience rife with cultural misunderstandings is peak trope for me? Me, I knew that. And I don't really know where it comes from. I probably need to some deep self reflection on my early years as a young reader.
Is When She Purrs weird af? Sure, but it's also probably my 3rd favorite Ruby Dixon book after books 1 and 2 of the Aspect and Anchor series. It's also a really nice palette cleanser after the emotion devastation that is reading Jade Legacy, the final book in Fonda Lee's The Green Bone Saga. I read about 50 pages of it then have to chase with some Ruby Dixon alien smut. Seeing as I'm on page 101 of 715, I might as well give book #4 in the Risdaverse a shot.
3.5 stars

I love all sorts of weird stuff(different species among them) so it surprises me that something as tame as cat boy took me out. I just can’t feels like lady wants to fuck a cat and it’s weird to me. I might come back to it, maybe I can take it better later..why are there so many cat descriptions. Anyway that is literally my whole issue with the book, the plot and romance were interesting enough up until what I read.

We get a Praxiian love interest this time around!
This big cat is an ex-gladiator turned farmer (who is also hopelessly infatuated with out H) has some....unique courting attempts that lead our somewhat naive human h into a desperate decision. Like say...hiring a bounty hunter to kidnap her a husband for protection?

It isn't until the male is dumped on her porch all trussed up that she realizes her new prize is the very person she was trying to seek protection from. But could this ludicrous idea turn out to be the best mistake she's ever made?
All in all a lot of fun!

Let's go for a 3.5 because the epilogues are really really sweet.
