A gut punch, awful, but the prose is unlike anything I’ve ever read. Like swirly child daydreams in written form.

I didn't love this as so many people have, but it grew on me as it went along.

“When you hurt people, they begin to love you less. That’s what careless words do. They make people love you a little less.”

i don’t think i could rate this any lower than 4 stars just because of the writing. i don’t have any words to describe the prose or the story or the characters, but it was riveting and moving and true to the heart. i love estha so so much. wonderful read i can’t explain!!!!!

My review won't be able to do this book justice. This is what literature is supposed to be. It makes you think deeply and see each character's perspective. The prose and vivid imagery is truly beautiful. The storytelling style perfectly captures the way I thought in my childhood. The way children take it to heart when their mothers tell them that they love them less, the chopping up of words etc.
It also handles the evils of Indian society, how badly women were treated and even worse Dalits. It is realistic, I hope the twins finally find closure for their snatched childhood.
I want to reread it right now.
P.S:- I despise Baby Kochamma with all my heart.

I find it impossible to get tired of this book. Every year I get the urge to read it again. Every word is perfectly posed to create a seamlessly intricate narrative.
