It was the 3rd in the series but the first I read, very enjoyable nonetheless

A Clock Stopped Dead by J.M. Hall
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Book 3 in Thelma, Liz, and Pat's story. I love the characters and reading about the things they get up to.
I thought they'd do more together and be more of a unit, but there's times they're not talking and go their separate ways.
I enjoyed the story the more I got into it but the whole 'disappearing charity shop' was a bit psychological for me and not as 'cosy' as I felt the other two books were. It did have a bit of a Jonathan Creek vibe to it.

I would recommend and will definitely read another book by this author.
challenging mysterious slow-paced

Probably being harsh but this book dragged on for 80% of it. Also, it was annoying how they kept complaining about being seniors, especially Pat. I get it, you want to be young again, but telling me once is enough. The book feels so scattered and by the end I hardly cared.

Before I start my review, I picked this up not knowing it was part of a series and thus read this without having read the previous books.

While the premise of the book (three retired teachers solving the mystery of the vanishing charity shop) was promising, I feel like this fell flat. There was too much book for the actual story and none of it felt overly plausible. There was also no urgency to solving the mystery, which I think meant the whole plot dawdled not just in a ‘cosy crime’ way but in a true dawdling with no purpose way.

I am open to reading the books in the series prior to this as I can see from reviews that this seems to have been inconsistent with the rest.
