I was a little intimidated by Greek mythology and unsure if I could relate to any of the characters or situations but I have listened to Natalie Haynes on the radio, bringing Ancient Greece to life and I have been collecting her books for a time I felt ready to tackle them. I shouldn’t have waited. I should have just dived in.
I really wanted to love this book because I’ve been looking forward to it so much. I was definitely NOT disappointed. I absolutely loved it and it may be tied for the best book I’ve read in the last 5 years.
Natalie Haynes makes Greek Gods more human(ish) and humourous than I ever thought possible. I loved the conversations they had with each other and their attitudes towards each other and the mortals.
There is a feminist thread throughout this book but not the usual, irritating, hit you in the face feminism that is so over done in female led novels. Even the heavy stuff feels like a breath of fresh air and is sensitively done.
I loved this book so much and I knew I would love Natalie Haynes the moment I heard her on radio 2 and I discovered I had Pandora pegged wrong all these years.
