the first half was rather boring but the second half definitely made up for that. such an honest and raw book i loved it even though it gets really heavy

It reads very easily but I did't get the intention behind the book, to me it felt very empty. Had it been more of a social commentary I think I wiuld have liked it more but it was cery supwrficial on a lot topics so I don't know what to think about it. For me it's not a memorable book. 

Also there is a very long list of trigger warning, I put all the ones I remembered in my post.

I found Esther to be really annoying. I didn't care for any of the characters.
The only thing I found good was the language as it was kind of poetic. But other than that I don't understand why it became such a known and classic book.

A compelling, fascinating piece of writing, dark ans psychologically rich, funny at times, but also deeply tricky to read in places, due to the focus on mental health struggles, suicide and suicidal ideation. I also really liked the insight into 1950s American society (from a middle/upper class perspective). As fresh now and it was when it was written, and definitely worth reading.
