My Youtube chat about my love of Poe can be found here: https://youtu.be/UuggFRQIBOU (available from 13th July 2021)

There is nothing more satisfying than a short horror story that ends in wickedness, when horror is written for horro's sake and wins... there's a moral in the story, there's haunting wickedness, death trailing the hallways and a thousand people at a masqued ball thinking they can keep themselves from his grasp.

One of the most macabre stories I have ever read by Poe and he has a few of them! Read it, listen to it, I don't mind which, but do give it a try.

ok listen, i might've rated this a bit more than i should've because my judgement is very much clouded by how much i liked this and its pure simple tale, but i really enjoyed this

I love the pictures Poe paints with his vivid descriptions but I’m finding the stories themselves aren’t doing much for me. I feel like I need a class or symposium about him to get the full appreciation. Still the brevity makes this easy to recommend if only for a taste.

One of the most mystical and dreamlike of Poe's works, this story feels like a true ghost story and absolutely one of his more political stories akin to Hop-Frog. While not a man to shy away from moral parable in his writing the sheer force of nature of the Red Death hits a deep nerve when taken against the hedonistic nobles.
