I liked this a bit more than Paladin's Grace. Unlike the first, this one wraps up its own storyline and the storyline from the first book. Gnole content was excellent, would love more warren-mind content.

The character' internal monologues got a bit repetitive, and definitely we have some more of the same as usual for T Kingfisher's fantasy romances (fairly stereotypical paladin, miscommunication trope, strong-willed woman who is older & bigger than your normal FMC, etc). But overall it felt more like Clara was a full main character rather than a side character in this one, which was nice. I like the universe, and some of the characters were unique and well-characterized, but Istvan and Clara both annoyed me a bit.
Also the number of times Clara's breasts were mentioned was excessive. It felt like half of Istvan's character was objectifying her, and the other half was being thankful that she's not afraid of him because of her size & strength.

I'd love to see the next one focus on paladins attempting to do some good in the corrupt city.

“She was a big woman. Nearly as tall as he was, which put her well over six feet, with heavy breasts and belly, hips and thighs.“ whaaat never have I ever felt the such physical representation in a romance novel!! So that was terribly exciting. My new favorite book, loved everything about it and laughed my ass off, got some more gnole time, sexiness for days, and a festive chaotic climax - although the horror of the monsters freaked me the fuck out. All hail T. Kingfisher!
