✨️ARC REVIEW ✨️
Rules Of Play is the third installment in Hayden Hall’s 'The Saints Of Westmont U' series, and it brings a change of pace from the previous two books in this series. In this book, we follow jock Patrick and nerd Shane in a sweet, slow-burn romance.Unlike the earlier couples, there’s no enemies-to-lovers or complicated history—just two very different men brought together by a thesis project and an undeniable attraction to each other.
Their attraction to each other is almost instant, but both men are in denial of their feelings. This allows the story to show how they both gradually open up to each other.Nothing feels rushed or forced about their relationship making the story feel more believable.Patrick seems like he has it all, but he struggles with feeling that he is not smart or good enough. Shane, on the other hand, is confident in his intellect but deals with body image issues.Together, they build each other up & give each other confidence.
I loved the cameos from previous characters, but especially Elio giving Patrick advice. After everything Elio and Jaxon have been through, that moment felt extra special.

Oh the sweet, broken hockey boys of Westmont U. We're back with the Saints and the story of Patrick and Shane. Patrick is the beautiful, flirty hockey star who never takes a thing in his life seriously unless it's on the rink. Shane is an awkward, studious guy who feels invisible to everyone. Boundaries come down as Shane approaches Patrick about being the subject of a semester long research project. It would involve monitoring Patrick's vitals and observing him pretty much non-stop. Shane is gay and Patrick is straight, and never the twain shall meet...Famous last words. As they spend more and more time together, Patrick realizes that he is insanely attracted to Shane. Once they let those feelings loose, things get really steamy really fast. This is fairly low angst story, except a minor third act break-up that's pretty quickly solved. Of the books in this series so far, I think this is the gentlest and I appreciate it. And it is still hot as all get out. I would totally recommend it.

This is lighter than the other books in the series, more closer to classical jock/nerd romance.
Shane needs a test subject for his thesis, and Patrick agrees to be one. Spending months together brings the two closer, first as friends, and then surprisingly more. Patrick has been straight his whole life, living for the attention he's gotten as a hockey player. But it all pales in comparison when Shane looks at him.
One bed, and weeks of longing comes to head.
I liked both guys, they were more alike than you'd think, yet complemented each other.
