The characters are SO annoying … this appealed to me because of the librarian aspect and the potential for bonding over books etc. Instead their meeting & entire first day together grates on the nerves and yet somehow it’s supposed to be hot that they’re going to start doing it that evening? Not for me.

This is the NASTIEST book I have ever read! As my friend said, so many fluids!!!! However, the story was very sweet and intriguing. I love pretty much all of the characters, especially John-ka. I'm definitely going to read the rest of the books in the series!

❤️ Things I Personally Liked: I liked how each characters was fleshed out personality-wise. Pacing was good, I didn’t feel like skipping slow chapters, and the world-building inside Orc Mountain was nice!
💔 Things I Personally Didn’t Like: BDSM elements, and how it also became a main point in the story. Lots of blowjobs too, which had a world-building related purpose, but it happened often enough that the book was going into porn with plot territory.

I am not usually a fan of monster porn, which this is basically what this is, or inter-species mating, I suppose. It’s not usually my kind of book.
However! Keyword.
However, this was incredible. Yes, it was absolutely filthy, dubious hygiene, breeding kink sorta smut. But oh my god, the writing was incredible.
The story snatches you from the first page. It’s a book written by someone who is incredibly talented. This wasn’t a quick thrown together smutty book that compensated for shitty writing with more smut. It was a book that was well thought out. It had a good storyline, redeemable characters, and a beautiful love story.
I found this on r/romancebooks and it was honestly described as containing ‘buckets of cum’ which was not wrong.
I think I’ll read the rest of these books. My high brow literature for the year. 😉

Oh my lord.... Skipping to this book was the best choice I ever made. I was pretty put off reading book 1, but when I heard John Ka was a little kinky I ran straight to this one. The book especially resonated with me because I had a similar thought process to Rosa in a past (toxic and chaotic) relationship; it was crazy to read how spot-on Finley Fenn is in that regard. Learning more about the orcs and some of the characters' backstories certainly tugged my heartstrings. I did not expect the emotional rollercoaster ride that is the last 30% of this book, flip-flopping between hot and heavy to just heavy *cries*. I'm not sure how I'll move on to the next book after all that, John Ka is my fav.

WOW I became unnecessarily attached to these characters. Spicy scenes are yummy and I did not expect to get so emotional over this story but it's 100% worth every single moment of emotional distress. Fair warning there is no blatant description of rape or child abuse but it is implied that certain characters went through that trauma.

So I love the others in this series. This book however felt like it was written by someone else. Foreplay and accurate sex was out the window. This book I think was supposed to be kinkier then the others but lost that with the smut scenes being so unrealistic.
