Different world

Published a few years ago as a co-author offering, this series has been re-released with beautiful new covers, though it boasts the same content. Bringing Cassidy's trademark verve for the complicated, it delves deep into a brand new world of different Gods, new myths, and lore just begging to be revealed.

I am an avid reader of Urban Fantasy and the paranormal, but I cannot recall a series that focused specifically on the Hindu mythology - a facet that makes me want to hit the books and learn more about this culture (even if this book is set in an alternate London). The idea behind it is solid, and the notion that your soul can stain... well... that just sets up what promises to be another epic series by the master of multiple plot lines.

I enjoyed this book a lot! This was a great first installment of an epic series. Loved how strong the FMC is and how she isn’t the typical good no bad past main character. She has a taint on her soul and is starting to work hard to clean it. No sexy times unfortunately but the steam inbetween Malina and Garuda and Ajitah is going to be sooo good when they finally go at it.

New to me fantasy series with atypical gods

This was a freebie I had meant to read for some time now. The other books in this series are on KU which is why I finally made myself read it. Definitely alot of information to take in and remember but it keeps the background from seeking average. Also use of the London and European names for things was confusing at times to this American but it keeps in line with the story setting.
Gonna be interesting reading the rest of the story to see if there are more hybrids, what happens to our love triangle, and Eamon's fate (I just have a feeling, nothing was hinted at).

I had been hoping that drawing on the Hindu pantheon would give this a book a different feel than other urban fantasy books, but that hope was not fulfilled. Aside from different names, there wasn’t really much unique.

Malina is an assassin whom on her 50th kill will ascend. However, what she knew about her life is a lie and someone is out to get her. Finding her father and who she is take her on a race against time to save the world. If only she wasn't scared and attracted to both Garuda, a naga killer, and the human fighter who comes with 3 adorable kids.

It's my second series by Debbie Cassidy and I really enjoyed it. The plot is interesting and it takes you right into the story next to Malina. I also loved the use of Indian mythology.

I was kindly provided with an ARC by the author, but I'm leaving a voluntary and honest review.

Marked by Sin by Jasmine Walt and Debbie Cassidy is book one in their Gatekeeper Chronicles. In this book we are introduced to Malina, an assassin for Brahma Corp’s Assassin Guild. She has been raised as one of them for as long as she can remember and now she is just a step away from Ascension. She's been given the kill order for her 50th victim. All she has to do is complete the job successfully and she's on her way to better pay, a better place to live and moving up in the ranks of the Guild. But something doesn't really sit well with her concerning this next kill but she pushes it down. Just as she is about to receive that final mark that will have her taking the next step she's whisked away by someone who has been following her and thrust onto a new path that demands the purity of her soul, which has been compromised and now she must change that. The things she is told ring true in her mind and in her heart and now she must work to change what has been done to her. Malina must purge herself of the blood spilled by her hands so that she can do what she was meant to do all along...protect the world from the evil in the Underworld.
Marked by Sin is such an awesome read. Right from the beginning this book captures your attention and pulls you. You quickly find yourself wanting to know more about Malina. She's an expert assassin. Her weapon of choice? Poisons. She's good at what she does and always gets her mark, accomplishing the job. She strives to be accepted by the man who raised her but never seems to get his approval. But when Fates starts throwing twists and turns at her she manages to handle them well. She's been lied to all her life but now the truth has come to call and she must face it with all that she has and move forward.
I absolutely loved this book. There were even moments of where I got teary-eyed (yeah I'm a touch of the soft-hearted/emotional lol) because of the interaction between some of the characters. It's so easy to be selfish and only think of ones self but Malina shows that she has a really good heart. This book is really engaging and keeps you turning the pages constantly wanting to know what happens next. It was so hard to put it down whenever I had to do something else. I cannot wait for the next book in this series. If you are looking for a unique awesome ready with Hindu gods, vampires, werewolves, witches and more GRAB THIS BOOK!!!! You'll love it! I'm giving this book 5 out of 5 stars!

this was pretty good! really liked the two love interests she had going on but felt like the interest between her and ajitah happened a bit too quickly/suddenly. love her getting closer with his wains though.

the conversations with loki in his office felt a bit forced each time? like yeah we get he’s an ally but him finding her when she’s on a night out each time to have these chats? odd behaviour.

i loved that this has hindu/indian aspects to it instead of the usual mythology types (greek, roman, egyptian etc.)

hope we find out more about that the dad and his problem in the next book and garuda comes back :)
