I laughed throughout this entire book. Halpern's dad may come off as an Archie Bunker type of character, but this guy is a real person who is insightful, witty, and true. Although I would never use the language Halpern uses with my own kids, the man is eloquent. A hysterical read for anyone who is a father, has a father, is married to a father, or who wants to be a father.
I smiled a few times, but didn't have the laugh-out-loud experience I was hoping for. I did watch one episode of the television show, which kinda turned me off. I guess I'm more of a David Sedaris kind of girl? And, no matter how old I am, I remember my mom telling me that people who cussed a lot were too stupid to think of better adjectives. I don't mean to be a prude, believe me, I cuss. But not frequently. And only when I really mean it. Or drop something. Or trip. I'd like to see how this dad functioned at work. Did he cuss during his lectures on nuclear medicine? Or just save that for his young children?

This was a short one. I laughed many times but I don't think I would've laughed as much in the actual book as with the audio. The impression of the dad's voice really captured it for me.
I will probably remember this part forever:
Justin has a bloody nose & his dad asks: What happened? Did someone punch you in the face? The what? The air is dry?? Do me a favor-tell people you got punched in the face. LOL

Hilarious! I read this on my Kindle on a flight to Atlanta. I laughed so hard throughout the book I had everyone around me asking what I was reading. Read it and laugh!
I really enjoyed the little quotes throughout this book and several of them I had to save for later. I think the one fault of this book is that it isn't really a story that feels complete when you finish. The small stories that go with each quote are great, and they all tell us more about the family and the relationship between father and son, but they are all sort of disconnected. It didn't really matter to me, I enjoyed each story and felt like the Dad was a really great guy when you look past the roughness, which was kind of the point. I think this book is a story of the moments in the son's life where he saw those glimpses past his Dad's toughness and saw how caring he really is. Overall, it's a fun, fast read, and has a lot of great one liners and stories to share. It could have had a stronger point or overarcing theme, but it was good enough for me as is and I enjoyed it.
Hilarious. Insightful. Touching. This book was amazing. I love it, really loved it.
A book full of humorous family stories that revolve around the quotable statements the author's father makes on a variety of topics.
I listened to the audiobook and I highly recommend it for road trips, especially for mixed adult audiences as there are anecdotes to suit every taste.
This is a quick read/listen and one that is a great in-between read too. I recommend exploring this title even if you think you already know about the author's father from other sources. He's a funny, yet intelligent man and this book, while revealing, honors the man.
