This book was really beautifully written. It was so uncomfortable and intimate and heartbreaking and I was surprised to enjoy it so much. Typically I am not as enamored with translations but this was really well done. The issue for me was the stream of consciousness style of storytelling, I found it hard to follow at times given the way she jumped around timelines and stories. Overall I’d recommend!

unfortunately, this story feels too steeped in spite for my palette. spite to the protagonist's mother for having raised her the way she did. spite to her daughter for being someone who grew up and became independent and formed a life and identity away from her mother. as someone with a mother wound, this is a bit too harsh for me to finish at this point; DNF at about 45%.
