Silly but still kind of cute.
Summary: Josh has hit rock bottom and decides to flip a coin to make all of his decisions. (The coin flip has got to be better than what he's been experiencing).

I really loved this. I laughed, I cringed, I hoped. I'm persnickety about novel endings, and this was a perfect novel ending.
We meet our protagonist at a true low point. He has lost his girlfriend, job, and apartment in one swoop. As a result, the first two chapters are a real pile-on, so I encourage readers to give it through the third chapter. That said, this entire book is his internal monologue, which simply some readers will enjoy (I did!) and others won't.
His friends are supportive while having their own lives; they feel real and relatable. His parents are character gold. While the plot is unusual, it never jumps the shark into ridiculous. I really enjoyed the narration. I laughed out loud at so many points of this book.
I reject the categorization of this as a romance novel or rom-com. It involves a romantic relationship, but it's not the center of the plot or follow the same path as a romance. He doesn't meet his romantic interest until 1/3 way through the book, and they don't spend any appreciable time together until the last quarter of the book. It's a book about him and the painful and wonderful process of creating a new path for his life. Finding a partner is just part of that.

The Flip Side was an overall enjoyable read. It is definitely focused more on Josh's self-discovery than romance. I went in expecting a romance focused book and that isn't what this is. It really is about Josh learning about himself and growing as a person the year after having his marriage proposal to his long term girlfriend rejected, and losing his apartment and job.

Lovely sweet book. Likeable and believable characters in a sweet love story adventure. Would recommend. (Happily the the audio book is also read by a rather dashing viscount.)

tartuin tähän kirjaan sen takia et harva romantiikka-genren kirja on miehen kirjottama ja jossa on vieläpä miespuolinen päähenkilö. tää oli ihan hauska kirja, tosin lähti ehkä vähän liian hitaasti käyntiin ja alussa oli paljon turhaa jonka ois voinu käsitellä lyhyemminkin. käyntiin päästyään kirja oli tosi viihdyttävää luettavaa. eikä tää ollu kuitenkaan samanlainen kliseinen tarina kun monet muut rakkausromaanit (vaikka toki lopputulema olikin ennalta arvattava). tykkäsin kyllä tästä vaikken ollu välttämättä alussa ihan vakuuttunut.
