An autobiography of the star of Torchwood and the West End theater in London. I was expecting to enjoy the book as I love to read and adore biographies in particular, but I didn't expect what I got from this book. The set up of John's reminisces give you the impression that you are sitting in his living room listening to the man's stories.

I found myself laughing uncontrollably at certain sections, snickering at others, and going "ahhhh" once in a while. I do recommend that you do not read this book in public. Between the snarky footnotes and the hilarious stories, you'll soon find yourself getting strange glances from strangers who will soon be moving farther and farther away from you.

John is anything but shy and is willing to tell stories on himself without shame and just a tad of embarrassment. He speaks about his life as a child with his strange, loving and wonderful family, how his career started, and his adventures therein. For those who are Doctor Who or Torchwood fans, here are just a few stories. My understanding is that his followup book, I Am What I Am will have more. I'll soon find out, I have that one as well.

Rambling as all heck.

Often entertaining, sometimes moving, sometimes lame quasi-chronological stream-of-consciousness string of anecdotes.

For Barrowman fans only, but they'll enjoy this romp through his life (or should I say, his youth--he calls this "part 1".

This was my first ever autobiography and I absolutley loved it! Before, I'd only read biographies and had never found them that interesting, normally I didn't even finish them, so this was a lovely pleasant surprise. The story telling was magnificent, and I found myself laughing aloud lots. He's a brilliant person, and this was a brilliant autobiography.

Loved the conversational tone of this book. Funny, thoughtful, and personal stories told in a way that make the reader feel like they're sitting down for a cuppa with Barrowman.

Mildly interesting. Often funny. Sometimes gross.
Good for fans of Musical Theater.

So fantastic. He tells you what really happened, even if it was bad. He doesn't brush everything golden just to sound good, or stay in everyone's good books.

This book makes you respect him just so much more. And want to know more.

I really enjoyed this and it was exactly the right kind of upbeat book I needed at the moment as I'm struggling with a huge deadline and don't have the brain capacity for anything heavy.

John Barrowman's life story was anything but heavy. It is told in a discursive, anecdotal style in which digressions have further digressions -- though he does always come back to the point eventually. :)

I have seen John Barrowman perform live in the panto Jack in the Beanstalk in Cardiff a few years ago and he (and the rest of the cast) appeared to be having a huge amount of fun whilst still remaining thoroughly professional and doing what they were paid to do, namely entertain the audience. This book captures that spirit perfectly. He is clearly a man who enjoys what he does and that comes over in the book. The few serious moments are about his family and his partner of many years Scott.

I don't normally read celebrity autobiographies, in fact I don't think I've ever read one before, but this was a good read and I was sorry when I reached the end.

Having seen Barrowman live at Comic Con twice now, I wasn't sure what to expect of this book but it is certainly written in his voice
