I had to put this book down for a few days before I got back into it because I was in so much pain from the second book, "The Empress." Before I proceeded, I was actually in the process of detaching myself, accepting whatever the plot led to, and I was waiting for the worst. And the worst did happen in the best way possible. Every turn of the story felt like a climax, and there were a lot of them. You are compelled to continue reading to find out what happens next. The storytelling is astounding. I came to love this book so much. But this is not for the faint of heart because the thrills, twists, and betrayal agenda keep you enraged to the point where you just have to read. Anyway, I will be pondering over this mind-boggling novel for a long time. It is so well-executed.

skimmed through this at 3.5x on audio so i could get some closure and rate it as low as possible because that was a solid waste of time
  • the concept was there i guess, but again, poorly executed
  • i mean, it all hinged on the flimsy-ass, completely unfounded, underdeveloped, doesn't-make-any-sense-except-for-the-fact-that-they-are-heterosexual 'romance'
  • i cannot over the fact that this relationship is built on nothing, and yet the entire series revolves around it like
  • it's supposed to be all romantic and tortured, they can't live without each other shit, but why?
  • they don't know anything about each other?
  • they don't even trust each other?
  • they don't respect each other's wishes?
  • they don't even want to be together?
  • is this really how the hets think relationships/romance works??

  • also, the rebellion coming out of nowhere in the last book??
