The pacing was great. I took a few breaks because it’s not an easy story by any means, but the ending was satisfying and I’m glad I stuck with it.

I think way too much time was spent on Alice Lee and what happened right before she dies. Which we know she does from the book description. Like over half the book is spent on that. So you know everything about her while Ruby is trying to piece it together. I don't think this novel is powerful or hopeful. All the characters are so two dimensional there's no depth at all. <Spoiler>Then mix in the absolute awful male characters who are into CP. Which is a problem engrained in our society.</Spoiler> But it was written so cookie cutter/ stereotypically and almost for shock value that the serious subject matter was not done justice.

This book is extraordinary, it doesn't follow the traditional plot of a typical murder mystery. The most important part of the book is not the murderer, but the victim's (Alice Lee) life in her short 18 years. It recounts the traumatic things that happened in her life, and you really start to become connected to her. This book is also very lyrical, every quote has so much meaning and depth, and the whole story is so beautiful. It's a story of found family, trauma and figuring out where you sit in the world. Overall I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars, this is only because the book takes a while to become interesting, but after you get dragged into the plot, it's all worth it.
