This has been on my shelf for years and I finally picked it up.

It took me a while to even understand what was going on because of the dual timeline but I think that was a me problem.

I wouldn’t necessarily say this book is my vibe now because I don’t usually read these kinds of book. However, it t was a good different sort of book for me to read.

I could see this easily becoming a movie in the future.

After a slow start to this book, I couldn't put it down and really enjoyed it. There are some really sad moments where you have to stop for a breather.

The main character Jenny/Lola is perfectly described which allows you to connect with her. At times I just wanted to shaker her and ask her why she did certain things. To say that Hollywood was a rough place, she didn't do bad. Although Valentino wasn't seen much within the book, he was described quiet well and I wish I had one!

There is a lot of mystery about Valentino's death and I think the author did quiet well explaining it. The ending is sad and frustrating, which brings a tear to the eye.

This book was an enjoyable, romantic read.

This broke my heart.
Beautiful love story. Wasn't too impressed with the writing in the beginning. Wasn't too impressed with how much the main character seemed to swoon.
But after about a quarter it just grabbed me and wouldn't let me go.
And in the end it made me fall to pieces.

Not really my sort of thing. An interesting enough premise, just spoiled by the fact that there's a bit too much tragedy to get you properly invested. If you don't have the bright moments as contrast, the dark tragic moments just make everything a murky shade of grey. Well-written, but I wouldn't read it again. Maybe something to pick up if you're a fan of silent movies.

I’ve found this book annoying - the self-indulgent and meandering interjections from the narrator, the relentless self-pity, and the astounding lack of realisation. Of course, the distant and beautiful man will break your heart - this isn’t a great and tragic love story, it’s just pitiful. The simpering mess of a “heroine” is irritating, rather than endearing which is what I think the author probably intended. You’d think she’d learn at some point, but she never does. It’s the profound lack of growth in the characters that really did it in for me though - they just didn’t go anywhere.

I can’t be bothered to waste any more time on this review, but please do yourself a favour and read this one https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1929631973?book_show_action=true&from_review_page=1 . A far better read than the book!
