Age gap, ableism, no one likeable. Not a fan.

Considered giving it a two for most of the book, only uplifted by a very solid ending. Masterful prose and an interesting plot, but a combination of hateable characters and slow pace killed my interest in the mid part.

Peter is self-centered, greedy and cruel, but at least he is self-conscious and able to criticize himself. Ivan is an Incel who is immature and petulant. I increased my rating for the book when Peter smacks Ivan. I thought Margaret Sylvia and Naomi were all a little “too perfect“, followed by Sylvia‘s really weird, cruel twist at the end. Overall, I would just say that they were OK. Peter is an example of a good, complicated character, Ivan is an example of just a bad dude.

Reasons for deductions: really dragged on, too much conversation, Ivan was a prick, probably 150 pages too long.
