Maggie MacKay has always felt something was different about her.  When she was younger she had outbursts that had people thinking that she had some thinking she had a gift, while others thought she should be shunned.  Years later Maggie is back and wants to figure out what truly happened.

Not everything as it seems with this book.  Maggie ends up uncovering more than she thought and it puts her life in danger.  I liked the parts where there was talk about old legends and the unfolding of the story.  This one was not what I expected based on the blurb, had it's moments but at times too much going on that it is was distracting.

This was an amazing read.  The mystery is fantastic and the setting beautiful.  A small village is full of secrets people don't want exposed.  This book just hits all the right notes for me--I enjoyed the characters and the mystery.  It kept me guessing until the end.  While it is not a horror novel per se, there are plenty of terrifying moments, including one of the most frightening scenes I have ever read.  I can't recommend this one enough.  It is one of the best books I have read in the past few years, especially from the thriller/mystery genre.
