Questo romanzo racconta le vicende di un uomo che scopre di avere un sosia che cerca di sottrargli la vita.
In questa opera si sente ancora l'immaturità di Dostoevskij (che più avanti nella vita pensò di rimaneggiare il romanzo e sistemare i punti deboli, anche se poi non lo fece mai), però ho notato anche molti passi in avanti rispetto a Povera Gente.
Personalmente ho apprezzato molto questa lettura, ho trovato molti risvolti comici con questo narratore invadente e supponente, ma ho avuto modo anche di riflettere.
Quante volte nella vita ci lasciamo disturbare da mille paranoie che spesso sono solo nella nostra mente?
Quante volte una risposta strana, un saluto mancato, un sorriso non ricambiato ci manda in crisi e ci fa sentire in difetto?

Strictly speaking a 3.75, because the narrative of this book is very challenging, as you can never be too sure what is told is the figament of derangement, or the actual truth, or even a mixture. Thus, I had major issues figuring out the details of some character's relationship with the protagonist. However this book makes a very good depiction of how madness plays out in the minds of those afflicted. Especially in the light of my own experience as a mental illness recovery patient, and my past 5 month's struggle and failure to aid a fellow patient friend on recovery, this novella leaves me with plenty to muse upon.

A downward spiral. An unending nightmare. A person with the casual life suddenly discovers his "double" that just came into town. Our overthinking protagonist watches his life falling apart while this so called fake version of him is reclaiming his life. It's chaotic and mind boggling. Annoying and desperate. A self reflection on how we truly behave and if we are really programmed to do things as planned.
