TOP READ OF 2020!

So this review is probably going to be on the short side cuz this book is just incredible and I don’t want to give anything away! With that being said....

Everything about this book was amazing! Just the perfect amount of dark and suspense. Gosh this book was everything.

From the way Saxon and Isla meet. To the way Saxon is as a person, all dark, brooding and mysterious. And Isla was such a surprise for me. She wasn’t what I was expecting her to turn out to be. But the two of them together was the best. I just loved Saxon and how he was with Isla.
adventurous mysterious medium-paced

I have adored every book Maria Luis has written and RTF is no different. ⁣

I’m not going to say much about the storyline or anything like that because I don’t want to spoil it. Saxon and Isla were fire and ice and the perfect main characters for this dark romance. ⁣

This was a definite five star and without a doubt one of my favorite books in 2020. I devoured this book and was upset when it ended because it was that good. I am counting down the days till the release of the second book in this trilogy!⁣

DID NOT FINISH: 8%

Recommended on Elisabeth Wheatley's channel and some others. There are some minor gripes (alternating perspectives) but I heard the author was strong on history. However.

The psychology of her characters is the equivalent of painting stick figures. The MCs dad takes his kid to his entitled abusive apoplectic employer, and says 'maybe my kid can play with your daughter'. Everyone was surprised when that ended up hilariously over-the-top badly.

The MC's so terrifying and big and gruff. The two speaking female characters are terrified, trying to put on a brave front.

Who wouldn't want to read this?

Wow! What an incredible world Maria Luis introduced me to! Road to Fire is about Saxon and his brothers and their fight to protect the queen. Then Isla comes along with her secret. She barrels into Saxon's life and I love her feisty attitude and the way these two interact. As much as Saxon is a brute you can't help but love him. There are so many twists and turns and just when you think you know where it is leading this book takes you somewhere else. It kept me turning pages to find out what happens. Also the ending is major and I cannot wait for book 2!
adventurous tense medium-paced

Action packed dark romance with twists and turns on every corner and some very steamy scenes.

This book was hands down one of THE BEST books
I‘ve read this year. Since I‘m a creature of habit I mostly neve read blurbs and the same goes for this book. I didn‘t even know what I got myself into half the time but I loved it!

A mysterious romance story set in London - perfect. Defender of the crown, broody and damaged hero against stubborn and strong heroine.

Saxon and Isla are just made for eachother. Both struggle with the love of lost ones, duty to the country, their familys and how to cope with the new order in England. Riots on the street, attacks against the royal family and yet hope for a better future.

In this book you honestly never know what happens next and you really can‘t stop reading! I tried and then finished to book at midnight

4.5 STARS
As a long time fan of stories involving spies and subterfuge, this reader was thoroughly captivated by Road to Fire. Being the first book in story revolving around spies and royal families, I was a little worried that I’d be overwhelmed with information. I’m happy to say that was not the case at all. Details were shared in such a way that my interest was always peaked. The building suspense kept me turning pages well past my bedtime, while the words on the page left me mumbling to myself. Anticipation, disbelief, despair, and reassurance. I felt all of this and more while reading along as Isla and Saxon struggled to overcome everything against them. Allegiances played out, building to an ending that left me gasping. I want more of the Priest brothers and the secret society, and cannot wait to read the next book in the series!

*Note: While there is a cliffhanger, it is in relation to an overarching plot, and not relative to the HEA of this particular couple.
