this book was on a mission to make me cry and it succeeded at the very end 😭
this was a lifetime experience like this is definitely going to stay with me forever, it both destroyed and healed me at the same time and that's not something I can easily forget. i also think lin wanyue and li xian are very much at this point two of my favorite fictional characters and couples EVER.
i still have some unanswered questions, but overall this was so. fucking. good that i think i can be forgiving with that.
also when it was revealed at the end that they were soulmates??!?! i was LOSING IT!!! i love them so fucking much 😭😭🥺

While I was entertained, my fan translation wasn't... the best so it was difficult to continue reading.

Definitely a slow read at first (maybe that just comes with the territory of it reading the translation rather than the raw version + not a huge fan of military/war genre) in the first half, but towards the end it definitely had me more invested with Li Xian and Lin Wanyue having more scenes together and gradually being to understand each other as people.
[SPOILERS] I really liked how Li Xian didn't really start falling in love with Lin Wanyue until after it was revealed she is a woman. I think I was expecting the unconditional love regardless of gender, and PDL also explains this in her author's notes, but this was an equally valid response and I enjoyed reading that.
The extras were cute as well and I wish we had more of them plus moments with their daughter but that's just a me thing.
1/20/23: After reading some of JWQS, I just know that this was just PDL's first work hence it lacking in some parts. Still way better than other completed baihe I've read though I'm not even going to lie
