I don't know what I thought this was gonna be but this wasn't it. It felt very much like Casey Plett. I love the nuance of queer culture in it and critiquing the places where it is problematic or we use being queer as an excuse for anything. I almost wished it delved into Katrina's sexuality a bit more. I loved how real all the characters felt tho

Messy and complex characters, sally Rooney intermezzo esque. Had many different perspectives on important issues in trans communities as well as others. Idk just very complex characters, and I liked the vocabulary and ways things were worded
I was really invested in this book until about half way through. I loved the writing style and the jumps back and forth in time but the plot just started to lose me. It felt like an oversimplification of being a trans woman and very surface level, with a lot of saying things instead of showing them.
This is my second time reading this book and I love it even more the second time. The first time I read it was just over three years ago—it makes me kind of emotional to think about where I was then versus where I am now; my life has changed so much for the better.
After having read everything else Torrey has written, I can pretty confidently say this is the best thing she’s done. It’s full of so many smart and funny moments and the characters deeply resonated with me. The section about Amy that focused on her childhood and early transition in the Glamour Boutique made me cry multiple times, I had to put the book down repeatedly ro regain my composure. Even though I haven’t gone through the exact same things, so much of it rhymes with my own life, and the way it’s written brought so many of those same feelings back to me.
I wouldn’t typically recommend this this to cis people, but who knows. Deeply moving, and one of my favorite pieces of trans lit.

The beginning of the story was interesting. But there is way too much back story (Reese's) about how she enjoyed being abused/treated badly by men, too many generalisations about how women let themselves be treated badly. This part of the story just rambled on. I saw in reviews that there is no proper conclusion and the story is not well told.
