For what it is, 5 stars is less than the book deserves.

This book is pure screaming hilarity, wrapped around a warm educational core. Sprinkled liberally with some of the most dominant personalities in history, and VOILA. Greatness.

Thompson writes for our generation; the generation of people born in the later decades of the 20th century who want sarcasm and memorable quips to be prevalent in every conversation and think all dialogue should resemble something scripted by Tarantino or, perhaps, Lemony Snicket. There’s no beautiful prose here but you will laugh out loud at least once in every chapter, and when people look at you strangely as you giggle uncontrollably in a cafe you can think smugly that – were Blackbeard still alive – he would probably swashbuckle them to death for the insult.

Just like the website, badassoftheweek.com, Badass is pretty badass.

Colorful stories about insanely violent face-smashers throughout time, history has never been more fun.

Or cursey. And electric guitar filled.

Simply put, it's a history book for those who strive to be awesome in their lives! It's a dude's history book and that's why it's awesome!

Like history? Like badasses? Then this is the book is for you. This books covers all aspects of history, with a humorous flair. Thompson covers all of the legends of history and also some of the unknows that show up at random during the course of history. After reading this book for a while, you will get used to thompson's style of humor.

An interesting set of choices. In some ways it seems written to attract 14-year-old boys, but then the author makes an extended reference to M.C. Hammer--something that most 14-year-old boys wouldn't get. So it seems to be written to older boys who like to think like 14-year-olds.

Ultimately it ends up having some more depth than expected, but then suddenly shallows it out with way too many pseudo-sexual references.

Fun but not all that worthwhile.

First of all let me say Im a bit of a history buff. With that being said, I loved this book. Its funny witty, gets people who maybe aren't interested in history, well interested. I think this book is fun, easy and something I think there should be more of.

This is pretty much what happens when a nerd tries to reinvent himself as a Fratboy in college but is still getting a history degree.

How I ever ended up purchasing this at some point in my life is beyond me but this was an all time eyeroller.

Some offensive language and A LOT of references to balls.

If you want to relive your college days at bad parties with dudes who are trying WAY TOO HARD....then this book is for you.

I only begrudgingly give it two stars because there were a few stories in which I actually learned things.
