A clever book aimed at middle grades. Mr. and Mrs. Bunny bumble their way through solving a crime for young Madeline. Madeline’s parents were taken by foxes and she needs to locate them before it is too late.

The detectives are not always practical in their efforts, but they are sincere. This is silly and surreal and I enjoyed the journey. A fun and smart read.

Thank goodness for serendipity. On the Fiction_L listserve, someone mentioned that this book would make a good choice for a book discussion group. I found that hard to believe; looked it up in my library's catalog and took it home that night to read. I was intrigued with the premise of the book, but even more intrigued with the thought of an adult book club talking about a mystery narrated by rabbits.

This is a hoot. There are several layers to Mrs. Bunny's story so adults and children will both find things to laugh about. Horvath does a great job of translating Rabbit so that all readers know about the mystery and cheer on the protagonists as they try to solve it. All the characters, humans, rabbits, foxes and even marmots are wonderful.

I am still not sure if most book groups would find enough to talk about, but I can't think of many people young or old that wouldn't find something to amuse them in this story.

I recommend this mystery to parents who are looking for an easy chapter book to read with their kids, to folks who need a good laugh and to husbands and wives who may see themselves or their spouse in this tale.

This is great fun. You shouldn't miss it.

Another Charlotte bedtime book. She loved it. How could you not? Talking animals, parents get kidnapped, amusing situations. We've already picked up the second one.

Girl's parents are abducted by foxes. They are total hippies. Madeline enlists bunny detectives to help her, although she's not sure why they can understand eachother.

This book was GREAT! My children and I have a habit of reading aloud for a half-hour or so each day in our homeschool. We are always on the lookout for books that appeal to everyone -- the ages range from 7-14. Mr. and Mrs. Bunny, Detectives Extraordinaire fit the bill perfectly.

Madeline, a lonely, independent, sensible girl discovers that her hippie-dippy, irresponsible parents have been kidnapped by foxes. In an effort to rescue them, Madeline discovers a pair of bunnies --who reminded me of a cross between Mr. and Mrs. Bennett in Pride & Prejudice and Nick and Nora from the Thin Man -- who have decided that they are detectives simply because they have matching fedoras. Mr. and Mrs. Bunny hop at the chance to help Madeline. However most of their ideas are laugh out loud silly. These adventures include include taking a disguised marmot, whose first name is THE, to The Olde Spaghetti Factory to gorge on garlic bread, appearing before a Bunny Council in overalls, and driving around Rabbitville in a Smart Car wearing purple platform shoes.

Naturally all this silliness makes excellent reading aloud. My kids LOVED THIS! I had a lot of fun coming up with different voices for each of the characters. I also appreciated the attention to the writing. While it was all in good fun, there were some solid themes in the story about being responsible (Madeline's parents got a incomprehensible lecture from Mr. Bunny about their parenting skills!) and noticing things around you, like talking animals. I LOVED the references to Einstein and Jane Austen and the madcap plot twists and hilarious dialogue. I could have done without the phrase "Bollocks!" spoken by a disagreeable moocher bunny at the end, but when one is reading aloud, that is easily skipped over. I probably would have given this book four stars, but my five children's enthusiasm for this story pushed it to a five.

This book is a great read for kids of all ages!

The hippy adults are making my blood pressure rise.
A very funny and cozy book, but you really have to power through the first chapter. The hippy parents are properly mocked for their ridiculous ways, so I was able to stand them.
I hope there are more Mr. and Mrs. Bunny books coming up.

This is one of those whimsical books steeped in absurdia which requires the right reader. Usually, when I finish reading a book I like as much as this one, I give it to someone else to appreciate but I am stumped who I would choose because its such an odd little tale.
