I’ve read volumes 1 & 2 of Hawkeye several times and always meant to read the remainder of the run but never did. Then the whole omnibus was put on sale by Comixology for a price I couldn’t pass. Part of me kinda wishes I did, though. Sure, it’s good as standalone issues but read as a whole, it’s very disjointed and all over the place. You get into one storyline only to have a one or two issue interlude interrupt it. Once I waded through and figured out the order I needed it to be, it definitely merited four stars. But it takes some patience.

WOW I really enjoyed this! I preferred the first half of the run with more standalone stories of Clint and Kate dealing with local NYC crime and protecting their building, but the overall arc of the series was really satisfying. Clint is such an interesting character (MCU Clint could never), self-sabotaging, awkward, stubborn with an obnoxious heart of gold. Kate Bishop is the love of my life and the queen of snark and I'm so excited to see her brought into the MCU. Another great thing about this run was it gave all the information needed from other series so it could be easily read as a standalone.
The art was stunning and there was some really clever concept issues - the one from the viewpoint of Lucky the dog was so smart, or the one where the strands of Clint's disastrous love life comes to a head with each woman getting their own mini-story within the issue was fun. On the topic of women, their roles in the story could have been better - with the exception of Kate and maybe Nat, they definitely aren't as fleshed out as well as the male characters and are mostly there to be love interests or exes for Clint. But overall, I think this is easily one of the best series I've read in my (admittedly brief) dip into the comics world and although I know the Hawkeye show will be different in a lot of ways, I feel like the trailer captures the spirit of this run and it's got me excited for it!

This definitely did not live up to the hype. At times it was kinda funny, but the humor got stale quickly. Maybe 2/3 of the issues felt like tedious filler. The issues when Clint was deaf were creative, though. The art was generally mediocre, and the story alternated between boring, predictable, and hard-to-follow. Overall this just didn’t impress me. I’m kinda curious to check out Lemire’s run.
