Thank you to the publisher for providing me a copy of this book for review!
As an avid equestrain, I can't pass up a good horse book! Young horse girls will really enjoy this read. This one missed the mark for me, however.
With some clunky writing decisions and a lackluster plot, it was missing an extra something that could have made it great. The majority of the story is spent developing Trendy the horse's backstory, and it feels like Sarah's development is neglected and rushed to the point where by the end of the book I still felt that I didn't know her very well. I loved when early on, we drew parallels between Trendy's refusal and Sarah's homework strike, but it seems like the link between them was lost at that point. Fostering those parallels and Sarah's story would have really helped nail the story for me as a reader. Sarah's struggles with dyslexia I feel were not fully explored, she did not get the help she needed as a student and it seemed that her issues were magically resolved when grandma's illness pushed her through writer's block. The facts about horses were nearly spot on, and I really appreciated their inclusion!

The Flying Horse tells the story of a horse and a girl growing up and the events that happen to bring them together.
This was a cute and quick read. Books about horses always appealed to me as a child and they still do as an adult. I liked that this story discussed how life can be full of ups and downs and just because somethings doesn’t go as planned doesn’t mean that the alternative is bad.
My only grievance is that the writing was pretty repetitive, often times even in the same sentence.
