Enterprise and crew are in starfleet’s doghouse, getting the simplest of assignments since the demon ship events. Another such mission turns out to be a whole lot more as they race to save a dying people living across an asteroid belt.

This was a good story, nothing that special, but very well told. I also really, really enjoyed the small flashbacks to an earlier Starfleet, and some characters that we can never get enough of.

Unlike the previous books the characters sound like themselves here. It’s not that much of a surprise that these authors stuck, while the previous one never wrote for trek again.

This was a fun one and dare I say the best of the “a time to....” series so far. The enterprise crew is back doing what they do best and it leaves a fairly interesting cliff hanger

Reads like a strong episode of TNG, but again, this is only the first half of the two-book story.

[3.5/5] A better offering than the first two books in this series. This gives itself time to build up and feels more like a bigger episode of the TV show. It's also better written. The entire first third of the book just concerns the crew hanging out with each other and being themselves, and it's very welcome. There are some fantastic character moments all throughout these early sections.

The central plot of the novel is about an unexpected first contact situation and while it's not totally thrilling it does continue to build up with layers of mystery and eventually action. Most importantly, the book dedicates good amounts of time to each member of the crew and shows their strengths.

I'd bet even the actors could learn something they didn't know about their characters by reading this series of books.

This is the third in the A Time To Series that takes place pre-Nemesis. These stories connect the dots and explain the changes that have taken place on the Enterprise.

Picard and the Enterprise are sent to respond to an old distress call and by old, we mean well over two hundred years old. They arrive at their destination to find a mining world in distress, their world nearly gone because of bad environmental policies but they have been busy remolding a new world where they hope to eventually settle. Picard and company offer to help but, of course, it's never that simple.

There are other things going on here as well. Riker finally agrees to his own command and Deanna goes with him. Beverly has been offered the position as head of Star Fleet medical and is pondering over her decision.

I enjoyed it. The story did drag in some places but overall felt like an old fashioned Star Trek adventure.
