much funnier than I'd been expecting
This is not what I expected, I doubt it was anything that anyone expected.
But I loved it, it totally took me by surprise.
I LOVE the writing! I also learnt a lot about the perfume industry, and many vocabularies of the olfactory world.
That said, I hated the main character, cuz ofcourse i did. But there were times it was beautiful, and I just wanted to keep reading.
And honestly I would love to know what that scent smells like, just a drop.

Not my favorite genre but the descriptive language is superb.

Grenouille’s character was very realistically portrayed, he regressed a lot, he did not know what he wanted, he changed his mind a lot, and I like that about the character, but I wish we would’ve gotten more into his mind after the third part and before the end. I was intrigued throughout the book with the description of scents and how intense it was for Grenouille, as it was never intense for me. My sense of smell is very faint, I don’t smell things until they’re up to my nose, or really strong, so it wasn’t boring to read as Grenouille went on about scents. The writing is mostly gripping, greed and desire are human traits I love reading about, despite it being weird or bleak sometimes. The third part of the book became sort of in need for suspension of belief, which I was ready to do. The ending was harrowing, and a beautiful tie up. I really liked the ending.

im surprised that i finished this considering the writing style.
the story is about an odorless boy, born without love or scent in old 18th century france. then we spend a good quarter of the book talking about how weirdly good he is at smelling different scents and how he dgaf as a kid abt anything. then he goes to become a tanner then he kills someone then he... doesnt kill anyone else for a really, really long time. and we instead read about him spending 7years in a cave.
i guess some of it made sense for plotline. if i were to summarize the novel, the chain of events would all have a purpose. the only issue is how much detail there would be in Fuck All. clearly lots of research done in perfumes and aromatics and such, but good god i didn't need to learn the specifics of every method on capturing scents. and the ending sucked too lol
