This is a hilarious, tongue-in-cheek guide to some of the most common mistakes writers make when they try to write a novel.  Written to encourage you to examine your bad habits, blunt and very clear on the dangers of lazy writing habits, a fun way to reframe your perspective on your own writing.

Funny and helpful - definitely worth a read by any budding writer, so long as you are ready to critique your own work

A very entertaining read, although some of the examples are perhaps so extreme that you don't learn from them as much as you could have, since you can see the obvious errors in them.

This book tried a little too hard to be funny. Lots of sound advice, but lots of waffle pads it out to try and make the point. I guess I didn't need convincing on much of the advice and hence the waffle felt like waste.

3.5 stars rounded up. The jokes in this book aren’t that funny no matter what anyone else says and the content is a bit of a slog and repetitive in some cases, but when you finally come across a section that sounds like you, it’s definitely an “oh, shit” moment.
