I could not warm to the main character. A war criminal hides in a rural Irish town posing as a healer. This was deeply unpleasant at times as the consequences of her trust played out violently. Her experience as a refugee in london etc. I admired this novel more than I enjoyed it.

Sorry but this books needs severe trigger warnings before anyone gets the chance to read it. Also I found it very anticlimactic and poorly executed

The book hides its intentions around the first part, but the story that follows is a sad, frustrating and a very real story of immigrants and women paying an additional price for all their misfortunes.

I don't think I've ever read a book that felt so disjointed. The two "main" characters were so under developed that I just didn't care about them. So many times I caught myself thinking, "what the hell is she talking about?" Events that could have been gripping and emotional were written about so vaguely that they were boring. I kept hoping the end would justify the slog and it didn't.

*dnf towards the 60% mark*

i'm sorry but to say that i'm thoroughly disappointed is an understatement. this is literally my first dnf of the year and frankly it takes a LOT for me to dnf a book . i was really excited to read this after knowing the premise of it but if i'm being honest i didn't understand *for the lack of better word* shit. i mean like i sort of got where the story was going at the beginning but towards the end it was really hard for me to decipher anything at all.
