The beginning was great, but the rest somewhat meandered about. Gaspar’s story was the best part. I wish the story had focused on him and his friends more. I didn’t care much for Juan or Rosario tbh.

This is a book that wants to hurt you. Densely packed pages, walls upon walls upon walls of text, leavin very little space for you to rest, to breath, to pause, pushing you to continue reading and slipping into your head with its haunting narration when you're trying to sleep.
I couldn't find the Spanish edition in Fable, so this review is in English for the sake of fellow readers, to hopefully push you unto the dark abyss that is Our Share of Night.
This is the story of a violent family. Of stolen children an stolen pasts, of destiny, of surviving the monster that haunts in the dark. It is the story of Juan and Gaspar, father and son. It is the story of Argentina during our darkest years, or ghosts that walk the Earth and the rich that make a profit of the dead - in more ways than one.
I was hoping for a different ending - but I read another even that said it all: this is a story about a cursed family, cursed by their actions and inactions, by what they did and what they chose not do.

DNF @ 64%.
I tried sooo hard, I really did. But I’m so. so. bored/ and this book is SUCH A SLOG. Pointless tangents, far too many unnecessary words & descriptions, and literally nothing gripped me. Could’ve been wildly shorter. Really regret the hours I’ve spent with this. I guess this prompted me to look up some Argentinian history but I really didn’t need to draggggg myself through 400 pages to do that.
REALLY want someone to tell me what I’m missing.

I needed to sit on this one for a bit. I loved it. The lore, the ghosts, the overall aesthetic.

As a fan of supernatural and occult horror I really really wanted to like this.
I previously read "Things we Lost in the Fire" and loved it, so I was really excited to learn about this book.
It felt to me that the main plot of the book could have been restricted to 300 pages. The rest of the book had too many irrelevant details, disconnected from the main plot. Many of the side stories in the book, were inspired from her other short stories universe, which I liked at first, but hated after a while.
I found myself thinking again and again "just get to the poiiint".
Don't get me wrong, I love Mariana's work and I will still read the rest of her books, but this one was clearly a miss. I gave the book 3 stars because of her beautiful writing, but the short story format clearly suits her better.

If you don't like this book then don't talk to me or my son Gaspar ever again.
