Back in May, I happened to be in Denver for the Denver Public Library's author event inviting actor and comedian Martin Olson, and his daughter Olivia Olson (who voice Adventure Time characters Hunson Abadeer and his daughter Marceline the Vampire Queen, respectively). Both daughter and father are talented writers, voice actors, and comedians, so it was fun seeing them discuss the Adventure Time show from behind the scenes and how their parent-child relationship shapes the dynamics between their characters. All around a fun time, and the two also discussed some of their writing, in which they expand the show's world, including some very interesting sounding upcoming books as well as this, "The Adventure Time Encyclopaedia."

I checked it out and read it quickly; Martin Olson, writing as his AT alter ego, the demon lord of the Nightosphere, Hunson Abadeer, compiles some information on the Land of Ooo and its inhabitants, all the time also dryly expressing his disgust at their insufferable cuteness and good alignments. Scrawled into the margins are the, often hilarious and spot on, interjections of Marceline, Finn, and Jake. Much of the book consists of character bios, maps, and other supplementary material for the series This probably won't offer too much to people new to the cartoon, but for those who've already been sucked into it (not unlike Abadeer's poor tech support guy), there's a lot of gold to be found. I particularly liked BMO's user guide and the Ice King's fanzine. This is well worth checking out by any Adventure Time fan. All in all, a bit of witty, light reading fit for kids and adults alike. I must admit, I've rarely been so big a fan of a show that I'd read its supplementary materials, but Adventure Time seems to be quality across the board.

A fun read, and a fun thing to have on-hand. Very cute. I'm the Adventure Time queen, so I knew a lot of the information, but it was enjoyable to see it presented in such a fitting manner.

LOVED it and would definitely recommend it to any Adventure Time fan.

This book is PACKED with illustrations from a variety of artists, and fun facts from the Land of Ooo. Most of the info here is what we've already learned from the show, but there's a handful of tidbits that are new.

Giving it 4 stars for a few reasons:

1) The writing soon became repetitive since there's only so many hilarious insults Hunson Abadeer can continuously throw around.

2) The book is interspersed with graffiti/notes from Marceline, Finn, and Jake, and while these are SO fun to read, it would have been even more entertaining if the book had been irreverently plastered with them (which would also counteract the aforementioned repetitiveness).

3) Again, a lot of it is info we already knew from the show, so to make it even better, I would have increased the amount of new information; though I wouldn't make it the kind of info that is essential to the storyline of the show. Keep it at inconsequential fun facts.

Also, the embossed hardcover is super neat.
