Why yes, I did basically read this cover to cover. Can't wait to make so many of these recipes!
Some food bloggers don't transition very well to cookbook authorship--but she is as flawless here as on the blog. Her recipes never let me down. And it's beautiful, too!
This is the kind of cookbook that makes you wanna work your way through every single recipe, Julia and Julia style. And I think I'll start with SK's chocolate chip brioche pretzels on this most awesome snow day.
Let's hear it for library ebooks! They're even better than borrowing physical cookbooks from the library (let alone buying yet another freaking cookbook; my shelves are FULL) because they take up less space! They're almost as good as food blogs, of which Smitten Kitchen is a nigh-legendary exemplar.
I've bookmarked a few promising items here — red velvet cake with red wine instead of food coloring? Yes, please! Mushroom bourgignon (sp?)? Also heck yes. And I've actually made her challah with olive oil, figs, and salt, and it was fantastic, so I'm looking forward to trying a few more of Deb's recipes.

It’s always interesting to review a cookbook. One never really stops reading a cookbook as there are always recipes to try and others to alter. What’s fun about this book is the origin of the recipe. There recipes named after her mother-in-law but she then plainly states that this isn’t it. She had to reverse-engineer the recipe from taste. That’s dedication to cooking. It’s these funny personal stories along with the recipes that make the book so entertaining.
The recipes are all very approachable. For the most part, the ingredients are simple ones any pantry would have. I found myself looking at recipe after recipe and realizing that I had the items to whip up most of what is in the book. The breakfast section is my favorite. I didn’t get a chance to try any of the recipes here, but I have tried several from her blog. I’ve been reading it for several years so this book is a real treat.

The Smitten Kitchen was one of the first food blogs I ever started following. So naturally, when I saw she was publishing a book, I had to get my hands on it. This is one of the few cookbooks that I read from cover to cover. Most often I will skim through the recipes, looking at the pictures and the recipe titles that stick out to me. This was not a possibility with this book. Deb Perelman has a wonderful writing style and lured me in on the opening pages. She wrote a mini story for each recipe she included in the book which gave this cookbook a much more personal touch than most other cookbooks out there. The recipes are well thought out and inventive. I highly recommend this cookbook to anyone, even those who do not dabble in the kitchen very often.
I'm a huge fan of her blog and also refer to this book constantly. if it's january, just go straight to the grapefruit pound cake, it's so so awesome. the peas and shells pasta is a quick-throw-together family meal and the maple bacon biscuits are a wonderful treat. i also love her writing style; humor, self-deprecation, lots of joy in eating and making things.
the simplest recipe, cucumber and avocado on baguette doesn't even involve cooking but i highly recommend you throw it together on a hot summer afternoon.

Very few gluten-free or dairy-free recipes in this book. Pretty but not practical for our family.
Vinegar Slaw with Cucumbers and Dill - 3 stars (too much salt)

There is one or two recipes I want to try in here, tried a modified version of a kale one and it was too plain, but it's probably because I didn't use the right cheese.
Update: I've made quite a few recipes from this book. My favorite have been the Cauliflower Pesto Linguine, the whole lemon bars, and the salted brown butter crispy treats(especially these).
My boyfriend got me this cookbook to add to my growing collection for Valentine's Day. After reading through it this past week, I have to say, I can't wait to cook everything in here. I'm going to start Sunday with breakfast. Every recipe is easy to read and follow even though some of them seem a little intimidating. And the pictures are GORGEOUS.
