Unfussy yet beautiful recipes. This reads more like a a peek into her cooking mind instead of a boring how-to.

I didn't actually cook anything from this book, so I may raise my rating a bit later on. Full of great photos and an upbeat, urban tone, this is a nice collection from an untrained chef who is getting plenty of praise from trained chefs. Some unusual ingredients that may be hard to find for the average home cook.

This was my very first cookbook, which I bought the day it came out, after being an avid Smitten Kitchen follower for years! A broad range of recipes, and all (or the vast majority at least) have photographs, which is a must for me. Binding that mostly lays flat--also a plus--and while there are a handful of recipes here that are available on her website, the majority are unique to the book! If you're a fan of her cooking blog, I don't think you'll be disappointed with this one!

Recipes I've Made:
rosemary gruyere and sea salt crackers - I think I might sliiiightly prefer her Parmesan Cream Crackers on the site, but these are a close second!
big breakfast latkes - Easy and tasty! Great savory breakfast option.
Potato frittata with feta and scallions - I love frittatas and this one was super tasty!
Vinegar Slaw with Cucumbers and Dill - addictive and tasty with a delightful tart crunch! Great option for hot summer days.
Big cluster maple granola - solid granola, though not my most favorite (that award goes to the olive oil granola in [b:Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat: Mastering the Elements of Good Cooking|30753841|Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat Mastering the Elements of Good Cooking|Samin Nosrat|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1599649084l/30753841._SX50_.jpg|51302253])
shaved asparagus pizza - also on her site, where I first made it, and one of my all-time favorite pizzas.
apricot breakfast crisp - also on her site, and a great not-too-sweet breakfast.
tiny but intense chocolate cake - small (6-inch), super quick and naturally gluten-free chocolate cake! easy and tasty, though it was a smidge eggy, which I didn't mind, but some might.
sugar snap salad with miso dressing - SO good! wonderful summer salad with a great, cool crunch and an addictive dressing.

I picked up the cookbook for the pictures. My instagram feed is full of food pics. But I was a little intimidated at first. It seemed like there were lots of steps and I'm a 3 ingredient & 5 step gal...however after reading the introduction and perusing the recipes, I was intrigued.

I had presumed this book would be best suited for my friends who "really cook." Not me. But I was wrong. She had be at rasberry ricotta scones and brought it home with shaved asparagus pizza and sphaghetti squash and black bean tacos. (They were awesome!) I enjoy that each recipe has a little bit of background and the instructions are Precise with a capital P. I came to appreciate the exactness rather than the vague dollop of this, pinch of that I am used to. (this is why I Cook, not Bake) For example, each taco contains 2 Tablespoons of squash, 2 Tablespoons of black beans, and 1 teaspoon of feta. I loved the variety in the recipes with exciting new flavor combinations.

In brief: Excellent pictures. Great recipes with new flavors. Ingredients that are accessible. Recipes that inspire...even a low maintenance lady like me to daydream about waking up and making scones.

First cookbook I have ever sat down and literally read cover to cover. Deb's personality shines through on every page, and I can't wait to dig in and make the wonderful recipes here.

My favorite food blog turns into a cookbook with all new recipes. Ayaus!
Stunning photos and yummy recipes. It's not a shock that I want to make about 90% of the recipes in this cookbook.

I love her blog and I love this book - all the recipes I've tried have been excellent and all the recipes seem do-able. The only knock I have on it might be that there are more desserts than anything else and I was really looking forward to the savory recipes.

Interesting recipes...turns out I enjoy her blog more. Shrug. Who knows? I'm still a big fan, but probably won't buy any more of her cookbooks.
