This wasa good read. Gigantic and sprawling, I had no clue how any of the pieces were going to foot together for a long time.

Not particularly deep or amazing characterization, but it struck me just right.

One of my favourite ever books (and series) a fantastic story with excellent description and great characterisation, the worlds and tech are well described and the aliens are truly alien. This is an approachable book that pulls you in pretty quickly without overwhelming you with ideas and concepts.

The last half of the book was easier to read than the first half. Cool world building and I really liked all the different sub plots coming together. The female characters were all terribly written though - in a way that completely spoils the book for me.
slow-paced

DNF. I gave up on page 617. Too many subplots, a meandering pace, and too many weak characters to track. There is a good story in here, but the author’s editor failed him. A quality edit would have cut 45% of this book. I don’t care if the 950-page sequel ties all the subplots together. This book isn’t good enough for me to invest more time in a sequel.

First-rate hard science fiction! Highly recommended even if it does end mid-story, and you have to go on to the next volume.

Way too much going on. Try hard.

4.5 stars. That was quite a ride. I found the wide use of acronyms by Hamilton a bit of an irritation, which could have been corrected by using the full name more often. That's the only thing that kept me from a five star rating.

This tale is like a major detective story. A lot of subterfuge and intrigue with all the bells and whistles of faster than light (FTL) travel via worm-holes, aliens who are not at all human-like and want total domination of their species, life rejuvenation and much more.

Many subplots along the way, which keep one guessing. I liken it to watching a play evolve on five separate stages at the same time.

I will start the second and final book of the series [bc:Judas Unchained|45244|Judas Unchained|Peter F.
