My first time trying Courtney Milan! I have no idea if this was a good introduction to her, but from what I gathered she writes HR with, among othe things, POC characters and capable women. I like that very much indeed. And I love Daisy as an character. She was shy and timid, but she knew what she wanted from her future. When we meet her, she has been thoroughly beaten down by the world. All the easier to root for her.
I liked Crash well enough. He was a rake but one that actually seemed to have fun. He was silly and always goofing around. I liked him and Daisy together. HOWEVERRRRR there wasn't nearly as much grovelling from him. Daisy wasn't completely blameless but in the grand scheme of things, what he did to her was WAY worse then what she said. What she said came from ignorance, his from a want to hurt her. I dont think it was her job to start the reconsalation.
The super short lenght of this book was in its favour. I don't think I would have been able to finish it if the characters had continued spinning around eachother, not talking about their feelings and feeling miserable all the while.
There is nothing more satisfying than when a woman chooses for her own future (and doesn't have to give up her dreams). That's she loves him but that it's isn't enough. She can have her dreams AND the love of her live. Hmmm yes that's the good stuff.

Taking a women's virginity and then (after a misunderstanding) calling her "a waste of a women" was such a foul thing to do. It made for delicious angst though. He lashed out, which can happen, but in such an awful way. I knew it from the beginning because I read the reviews and it made it very very hard for me to like him at first. The super short lenght of this book was in its favour. GOSH COURTNEY MILAN CAN DO NO WRONG, BASICALLY???? Daisy was absolutely /lovely/ and just...hit so many notes with me. I love Courtney Milan so much. I love how so very genuine her characters are and they all honestly deserve their happy endings and then some. I love her I love her I love her.

Courtney Milan always does it just a bit better than everyone else - she goes deeper, allows her characters levels of self-awareness, gives them autonomy, genuinely integrates issues of class, race, and wealth (and mental health) into romances that don't feel in any way pedantic for all of the extra layers. This novella is a little more of a fairy tale than some of her others but still a good read that leaves you feeling as if you've had something more substantial than the run of the mill historical cupcake.

Short and sweet second chance romance. I did have a hard time forgiving what one of the characters said to the other (part of what caused the rift). What one said was a miscommunication, what the other said was deliberately cruel.

This was alright. I liked Daisy in the first book and it was nice to see her story. I think the emotional development wasn't quite as good as I wanted. It was tough because Daisy and Crash had a history already, but with a novella, there isn't really enough time to go through and get really connected to both characters, especially when we also have to feel connected to their past as well.
I liked it, it was fine, but nothing special, and it left me wanting more.
