Surprisingly emotional and well-told. Sometimes repetitive and annoying but actually a hard read. I teared up for sure!

THIS SERIES HAS MY HEART!!
it's so rare to see some good manhwa's based entirely on family before Romance these days, I loved how Anthy wasn't just some helpless maiden and didn't turn into a spoiled princess, and I especially loved her and her father's relationship.
All the characters are so loveable too, Lily, Felix, the maids, Claude, Jeanette.
My heart is for Lucas but it's really great how it is open for interpretation without turning into some harem type of thing

Familial bonds and love, getting over trauma and child raising. It was an adorable and wholesome experience that knew how to get dark when I needed to.
Everything is surprisingly well tied in the end
Everything is surprisingly well tied in the end
Moderate: Domestic abuse
It starts with some heavy topics about detached parents and being afraid of a paternal figure.

-SPOILERS-
This doesn't live up to all the hype around it. Don't get me wrong, it's good, but it's not as amazing as some people claim it to be. A lot of people consider this manwha the one that initiated all this father daughter family type of tropes, but actually, I think the daughter of the emperor had a much more crucial role in popularising this trope. It's a good manwha, but some people put it at the same level as like villains are destined to die, which is completely in a league of its own.
I guess I just expected more from it? This was one of my first manwhas so I when I found out it had been completed, I was excited to read it again.
One aspect that I really enjoyed was the relationship between Claude and Athy. I'm a sucker for father daughter relationships, and I loved the growth that Claude went through and how he became a loving father. A lot of people don't forgive him because of how he treated Athy in her previous life, but I just don't think it was necessarily his fault. When he met Athy in the original novel, she was 9, and by that time, the black magic had probably done its course and made Claude forget about his daughter.
She also caused him pain due to the curse he had put on himself, so it's only logical that he would avoid her and then subsequently resent her. I'm not saying that his actions were right, but the black magic was to blame as well. He was a man who was grieving his love, and from one of the scenes, it seemed like the mom died because of being pregnant with Athy so I truly did understand why Claude acted the way he did. However, I loved his growth throughout the story and how he became a loving father.
I thought this story was going to be about the relationship between Claude and Athy with like a subplot of romance, but that didn't turn out to be the case, which I was disappointed about. I think this might have been a me problem and not a manwha problem, which is also why I'm not rating this lower than 3 stars.
I didn't like how the majority of the book was spent with Claude being sick and having amnesia. I came here to read about his relationship with his daughter, but the majority of the plot wasn't about that. I just thought the plot of the really old emperor possessing Claude's brother was kind of absurd. I just didn't think it made a lot of sense. Like, what do you mean you did all of this just because Lucas rejected you. It just seemed like a very silly reason to me.
I didn't really like this whole plot with the amnesia and them trying to take down aeternitas or whatever the fuck his name is.
Another thing that was confusing was how in the last 10 or so chapters, a romance subplot was suddenly included, but then it got no resolution. Athy didn't get with Ijekiel or Lucas, which was silly to me. Why go the entire manwha with having minimal romance and then try to squeeze all the romance possible at the end and then not even make a conclusion to it. Personally, I would rather her be with Lucas, but from the way things seemed to be going, it looked like she was going to end up with the other guy. However, I've heard that in the novel, she ended up with Lucas, so I guess I'll be satisfied with that.
This is a good manwha but I just don't think it was for me. It wasn't what I wanted to read, so I was just left disappointed.
